What Should I Do with the Old Knob and Tube Wiring?.What Are Your Options for Rewiring a Home with Plaster Walls?.If you can supply the labor, the total overall cost might well be under 1000 dollars, even for the extensive repairs you describe above. The good news is that the raw materials used in plaster repair are not too expensive. Young children could pick up the fine particles on their skin, and end up ingesting it when they put their hands in their mouths. To remove old plaster safely, you must be concerned with the large visible pieces, and also the dust that is too fine to see. Be aware that vacuum cleaners have an exhaust outlet, and that very fine particles will be ejected from the outlet when the vacuum is in operation. Getting this material off the walls, bagged, and into a landfill without exposing yourself to lead dust is possible, but it requires thought and planning. If you have to do ceiling work, it should be put off until you have gained experience and success at wall repairs.Īs others have pointed out, your existing plaster might be coated with paint that has lead pigment. Anyone can get the plaster up there, but not everyone will be able to produce an acceptable finish. Plastering a large ceiling will require a combination of skill, strength, and conditioning. Eventually you will acquire confidence in your skills, and be able to do a larger wall repair, say 50 square feet. You will be successful with finish coat plaster if you begin with a small repair, on the order of one or two square feet. Be sure to pick up a pound or so of retardant when you purchase finish lime. The mineral used to make the best finish lime is dolemite. You will have to locate a source for finish lime, preferably lime that contains significant magnesium, also known as "dolime". The materials must be of good quality, and in particular the gauging plaster must be dry and free of lumps. Finish coat plaster is the more difficult part of the process. It is quite simple to spread and smooth basecoat, because the final surface does not have to be smooth. Basecoat plaster can be purchased from a building supply company, the local hardware store will not have it in stock. The lath can be repaired and/or replaced, it is simply rough sawn cedar strip, nailed to the vertical wall supports, called studs. They can still be obtained, but you will have to do some searching to find them. It is not too hard to repair lath & plaster with original materials. The house is a perfect size with an awesome lot and with a LOT of work it has potential I think. We have broken windows too and just a mess of things that will need to be done. That's fine by me though because I LOVE to tinker and fix things. I wish I had gotten ahold of it before it was in the state it is now but that didn't happen so I might be there forever just repairing lol. Then the other thing I am wondering is am I going to (if I can talk him into keeping the lathe and plaster) be able to mix the two mediums on the bottom floor without it looking bad. Now my questions are is it practical to repair the holes and keep what lath and plaster I can in the bottom floor? There is a lot of gorgeous dark wood trim around the windows, doors and floor and I really don't want to have to tear that all off and replace it after sheetrocking but my husband would rather take it all out and sheetrock the bottom at least. It's a good sized house with each of the two floors measuring about 1440 sq feet. The last owner was planning on ripping it all out and also removed a wall that we will be rebuilding because I happen to prefer the rooms instead of a big open space. Holes through into the wall space, maybe 2 to 3 feet wide. Problem is that there are some large holes in the lathe and plaster walls. Some of the lathe and plaster has been removed already but most of the upstairs has it still and the bottom floor has a lot of the exterior walls remaining. I am buying a house that needs signifigant repair.

After three to four days, the setting of the pods takes place. At the end of the second day and on the third day after the opening of the flowers, they close completely and the colour begins to fade. About two weeks are needed for all the flowers to open on the single branch. The flowering begins from the lowermost buds and gradually moves upward, so-called acropetal flowering. The several cultivated varieties of lentil differ in size, hairiness, and colour of the leaves, flowers, and seeds. The seeds can also be mottled and speckled. Normally, each of them contains two seeds, about 0.5 centimetres ( 1⁄ 4 in) in diameter, in the characteristic lens shape. The pods are oblong, slightly inflated, and about 1.5 centimetres ( 5⁄ 8 in) long. They arise from the axils of the leaves, on a slender footstalk almost as long as the leaves. The flowers, one to four in number, are small, white, pink, purple, pale purple, or pale blue in colour. In general, the upper leaves are converted into tendrils, whereas the lower leaves are mucronate. The leaves are alternate, of oblong-linear and obtuse shape and from yellowish green to dark bluish green in colour. The rachis bears 10 to 15 leaflets in five to eight pairs. It has many hairy branches and its stem is slender and angular. Lentil plants in the field before flowering The genus Vicia is part of the subfamily Faboideae which is contained in the flowering plant family Fabaceae or commonly known as legume or bean family, of the order Fabales in the kingdom Plantae. The word "lens" for the lentil is of classical Roman or Latin origin, possibly from a prominent Roman family named Lentulus, just as the family name " Cicero" was derived from the chickpea, Cicer arietinum, and " Fabia" (as in Quintus Fabius Maximus) from the fava bean ( Vicia faba). The first use of the word lens to designate a specific genus was in the 17th century by the botanist Tournefort. Many different names in different parts of the world are used for the crop lentil. H.Schaef., Coulot & Rabaute They found that Spain's Charles I, Charles II and Philip IV showed five of the seven tell-tale features of "mandibular prognathism" (protruding jaw). Researchers from Spain's University of Santiago de Compostela studied 15 members of the so-called Spanish Habsburgs. The offspring of these marriages were known for their peculiar features. The Habsburgs, a German-Austrian ruling family, made strategic marriages to cement their power, often wedding close relatives. He also possessed what was known as the "Habsburg jaw", which was common among his predecessors, as well as epilepsy. He had the disorder known as "hydrocephaly", which means he had a large skull due to the presence of water in the brain. At the time, doctors believed the reason the King often had blue urine was tied in with his "madness." Ferdinand of Austria: The Habsburg Jawįerdinand I was the son of Emperor Franz II and Marie-Therese, who were first cousins. He also suffered from skin conditions which were treated with medicine made from a substance called Gentian, which is believed to have been the reason why his urine turned blue. Doctors would try to treat his affliction in all sorts of ineffectual ways, such as putting him in a straitjacket and ice baths. Recent studies have pointed to patterns in the King's handwriting which, during his "manic episodes", was different to how it appeared when he was "normal". Queen Victoria was the only child of Edward, Duke of Kent, who was King George III's fourth son, making him her grandfather. He was an ancestor of Queen Victoria's and is also a product of inbreeding, which is believed to have caused his disorder. He's also known for ruling England at the time when they lost their main colony, America. George III was known as "Mad King George" due to mental illness (most experts believe he was suffering from bipolar disorder). Alice's daughter Alix, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia, passed the gene to her son Alexei and his diagnosis changed the course of Russian history due to the involvement of Rasputin, who came in as a "healer" for Alexei. Victoria's daughter Alice carried the gene and passed it to three of her children, one of whom died when he was only two years old. Five of her grandchildren also died due to complications of haemophilia. One of their children, Leopold, Duke of Albany, was a haemophiliac who died at 30 from blood loss after he slipped and fell. Queen Victoria (1819 - 1901) and Prince Albert (1819 - 1861), five years after their marriage. Prince Albert had no sign of the disease, so he was unlikely to have been the one who passed the gene on. But she managed to pass the disorder to her children and grandchildren. Though Queen Victoria had haemophilia, she didn't face any kind of suffering. When it comes to royal blood, the most devastating impact of inbreeding has been haemophilia, a disorder that prevents blood from clotting and can be fatal. The couple first met when they were both just 16 and their mutual uncle Leopold came up with the idea that they should marry. The Queen herself married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who was her first cousin (he was the son of her mother's brother). In battle, their cavalry benefit from natural Gallic horsemanship, while the charisma and fighting prowess of their kings and chieftains make them formidable warriors, and earns them diplomatic respect amongst other barbarian tribes. Noted craftsmen, the Arverni enjoy improved income from their artisans, as well as profiting from the Gauls’ expertise with gold-working. Maybe their destiny lies across the sea to Britannia, with all the Celtic tribes united under a single king? Or to the south, to finally put paid to the growing threat from Rome? Seemingly unstoppable en masse, Gallic tribes sacked Rome in 390 BCE and terrorised much of the Aegean as recently as 279 BCE, invading Thrace, Macedon and Illyria. Blending animism with a pantheon of greater, local and lesser household gods, the Celtic religion is one of the key factors uniting the disparate Gallic tribes. While many matters ostensibly fall to the Arverni's kings and chieftains, in reality, much is governed by the will of the druids, including declarations of war or peace. It is by fighting this way that leaders have earned their places: as champions, proving themselves in conflict. Heavily dependent on infantry, the Arverni make great use of javelins and the devastating impact of the charge, led by elite warriors such as Spear Nobles and Oathsworn. Prestige and power come from a man's abilities as a warrior and a leader as much as his lineage. Ruled by kings and tribal chieftains, but deferent to their druids, there exists a rigid social order amongst the Arverni.
